Heading for a sustainable future together

An entirely sustainable energy supply, that is the ambition of the Dutch government. In 2018, only 7,4% of the power came from a sustainable source. In 2030, the sustainable energy share should be 27% already and in 2050, energy supply should be almost completely sustainable. An ambitious goal! The Marconi Buitendijks project connects the Delfzijl city centre with the Wadden Sea. Silt and sand are used to create salt marshes off the Delfzijl coast, and the sea dike is being converted to a boulevard for walking and biking. A new, striking bridge connects the city with the boulevard.
