Step 4 of the Safety Culture Ladder
We’ve done it! We now meet the requirements for Level 4 of the Safety Culture Ladder. It’s an achievement we’re incredibly proud of. For many organisations in the chemical, infrastructure and energy sectors, this certification is becoming increasingly important. It demonstrates that we’ve made the shift from ‘reacting when things go wrong’ to ‘preventing problems before they happen’.
Safety First
Safety first is our core value, with the aim of achieving zero accidents through rigorous safety management and high operational standards. It is therefore particularly pleasing that Aboma Certification BV has confirmed that we meet the requirements set out in the NEN Safety Culture Ladder certification scheme version 2.0. 2023 for SCL Level 4. Achieving Level 4 demonstrates a strong safety culture and represents a significant step for us in improving safety awareness and behaviour. As a company, we continuously invest in training and risk management.
Aboma Certification NEN Safety Culture Ladder (SCL) is an audit and certification process carried out by Aboma to measure and improve safety awareness and safe behaviour within organisations (often in the construction sector). The NEN tool uses a 5-step scale to assess how safety is embedded in the corporate culture.
Key aspects of the SCL and Aboma Certification
The aim of the SCL is to reduce accidents by encouraging a conscious approach to safe working practices, rather than merely following rules. The ladder ranges from level 1 (safety is ignored) to level 5 (progressive: safety is embedded in a company’s culture and innovation). Aboma is the body that assesses and certifies against the SCL standards. This certification is playing an increasingly important role in tenders within the construction, infrastructure and industrial sectors. Crucially, the focus is not solely on equipment, but also on the culture, attitude and behaviour of employees. In short, by achieving this milestone, we demonstrate that safety is actively embedded at and across all levels of our company.
