Friday morning, 12 April: We meet Victor at a truck stop in Rotterdam. He’s just finished a job involving the transport of jacket foundation components using Self Propelled Modular Transporters (SPMTs) at the Waalhaven docks. As is often the case, things turned out just a little differently than planned, but that is precisely what he likes about his work. In October 2018, Wagenborg Nedlift carried out an impressive operation in Bocholt (Germany): transport, positioning and foundation setting of the 47-metre-long Podiumbrücke (Podium Bridge). Wagenborg Nedlift combined many different disciplines and skills to successfully and safely install this bridge from the past to the future.
The bridge deck of the bridge in Gramsbergen (Overijssel, the Netherlands) crossing the Almelo-De Haandrik canal had to be replaced due to the poor condition of the old wooden bridge deck. The new bridge deck was made of steel to guarantee a long lifespan.
Kirkenes is ideally suited for observing the Northern Lights. Regardless of this draw, the Norwegian landmark feels like a final destination; end of the line for both roads and ferries. Yet Kirkenes, situated at a mere 10 kilometres from Russia, is known as the ‘gateway to the east’. Renovating the existing E105 targets the facilitation of trade and cooperation between neighbouring countries. Part of this upgrade is the construction of the Bøkfjord bridge; the 120 metre arched steel bridge spanning the Norwegian fjords, connecting Norway and Russia. A complex logistical challenge for Wagenborg to overcome.
The 180-metre long striking Nelson Mandela bridge, built in 1992, was due for renovation. Entrance, staircases and elevators were renewed and installed entirely in the existing building. A unique vertical transport challenge!
An entirely sustainable energy supply, that is the ambition of the Dutch government. In 2018, only 7,4% of the power came from a sustainable source. In 2030, the sustainable energy share should be 27% already and in 2050, energy supply should be almost completely sustainable. An ambitious goal! Royal Smit Transformers B.V. intends to actively contribute to that sustainability objective.
The Hanseatic city of Münster (Germany) has no fewer than 17 bridges across the Dortmund - Ems Canal. A number of these bridges are in need of renovation or renewal, including the Schillerstrasse Brücke.
